Preserving and Celebrating the Swedish History
Delaware Swedish Colonial Society is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization focused on promoting the relationship between Swedes and Americans. We hold various celebrations and provide historical documents related to the history of Swedish settlements in the United States.
Welcome Statement – Enjoy our site! We invite you to become acquainted with the Delaware Swedish Colonial Society (DSCS) and other organizations shown on this site and enjoy discovering the roots we have in the Delaware Valley and neighboring states. We share our Swedish culture and hope you enjoy partaking in the many activities shared on this site. What We Do
- Promote an understanding and appreciation of Swedish culture and traditions.
- Foster a good relationship between the people of the United States of America and Sweden.
- Collect, preserve, and publish records and other documents, printed or in manuscript, that are related to the settlement of Swedes in America.
Events We Hold
- On or about March 29th of every year, DSCS hosts a wreath laying ceremony at Fort Christiana Park in Wilmington, DE, to honor our forefathers’ who landed at the “Rocks” in 1638 and built the first permanent settlement of Swedes and Finns in the state of Delaware.
- On the Sunday closest to December 13th of every year, DSCS hosts a Lucia Festival at the Old Swedes Church in Wilmington, DE. This event together with Advent hosts the beginning of the Christmas holiday for Swedes.
- June, 2022 – Midsommar Festival – DSCS partnered with Old Swedes Historic Site in Wilmington, DE.
